Course Description
The Adirondacks: Forever Wild?

The Adirondacks are a complex landscape. The largest park in the contiguous United States and a unique mosaic of private and public ownership, the Adirondacks offer a rare opportunity to study interactions within the environment, between humans and landscapes, and among styles of governance, conservation, and development. We will take a place-based approach to exploring views of wilderness, natural history, environments and ecology, the balance among conservation, preservation and development, and current and future challenges to sustainability (ecological, social, and economic) in the Adirondack Park. To further our interdisciplinary immersion in the Adirondacks, we will emphasize experiential learning via field trips, research, and collaborative projects.
