Scribner Seminar Program
Course Description

Earth Elegies

Instructor(s): Robert Parke Harrison, Studio Art

Perceiving nature through the lens of a camera is a personal contemplative artistic process. In this seminar we’ll learn to create thoughtful, well-crafted landscape photographs. We’ll study the work of several prominent landscape photographers from the past to the present and study interdisciplinary texts from philosophy, poetry, spirituality, and ecology. We’ll hike and photograph in North Woods and regional state parks to study the beauty of the local landscape. We’ll learn to use a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) camera manually and learn basic digital editing and printing skills. No previous digital photography experience is required. Students use their own DSLR camera or borrow one from the college. (Lab fee: $80. Scholarships available for financially eligible students.)
