Course Description

Endurance: Long-Distance Running across Disciplines

Instructor(s): Rik Scarce, Sociology

Running endures. This basic capacity of fully able-bodied persons never seems to go away. Instead, it persists through myth and media, along the way transforming individual lives, communities, even entire generations. We will explore running from the dawn of our species to the latest “barefoot” running craze using materials as diverse as film, fiction, medical studies, and memoirs. We will also be involved in a running-related service project in the Saratoga community. Runners and non-runners -- including differently-abled students – are all welcome.
