Eros and Belonging: On Love, Affection and Community

What is love? What and whom do we love? To what ends are our erotic longings to
be cultivated and what is the role of the community in this process? Students will
explore the nature of love as well as the manner and proper setting for its cultivation.
They will investigate the beauty and depth of writings that include Plato's dialogues,
Shakespeare's comedies, Rousseau's philosophical reflections, and the novels of Jane
Austen.
