Course Description

Technology, the Environment and Society

Instructor(s): Oscar Perez-Hernandez, Spanish Program

Technology has shaped and continues to shape our history, our identities, and our planet. Our intense hunger for technological innovations has fueled global-scale problems like climate change, but, at the same time, technology has an important role to play in facing the environmental challenges of our time. In this course, students will examine questions at the intersection of technology and the environment, whether we talk about food systems or human-induced environmental disasters. We will do so by looking at how people around the world in different fields, from scientists and engineers to historians and science fiction writers, have examined such questions.
