Indian Music Ensemble

 

In the Indian Music Ensemble students learn Indian classical and folk music - Rag (Melody) and Tal (Rhythm system). There is a performance at the end of each semester.

Students can sing, play sitar, guitar, piano, violin, flute, or any other instruments they have learned. Or they can learn sitar or tabla through this course. They will get an introduction to Indian classical music and learn at least three compositions in different Rags: Yaman, Hansdhwani, Kafi, or Bhopali. Students can accompany the singers and instrumentalists and learn Teen Tal (16 beats)and Kaherva.
 
It’s a fun and very enjoyable class coached by internationally renowned sitar player, Veena Chandra.
