΢Ȧ marks Martin Luther King Jr. Day

΢Ȧ College is partnering with MLK Saratoga and sponsoring Dr. King Celebration Weekend events to honor Martin Luther King Jr. and his continuing legacy.

MLK Saratoga has organized an array of rich, insightful, inclusive, and challenging programs for the entire Saratoga Springs community from Friday, Jan. 14, through Monday, Jan. 17. is available on the MLK Saratoga website. All events are free and open to the public, and follow careful COVID-19 guidelines that are consistent with ΢Ȧ’s own protocols. 

A panel, organized in collaboration with ΢Ȧ’s Black Studies Program, will consider “Communities in Action — A Community Forum on Critical Race Theory: What It Is, What It Isn’t, and the Implications for Our Community” from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15. The discussion is part of a series of thoughtful discussions on this important topic.  

΢Ȧ will also offer its own MLK Day event from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17. Michael Hill, professor of Africana studies and English and director of the Program in Africana Studies at Washington and Lee University, will discuss " MLK and A Legacy of Collaborative Brilliance." The talk will consider how King handled the challenge of working with partners both within and outside the Black community. Analyzing King’s civil rights era strategies, he will explore their relevance in today’s society.  

Hill's talk will be followed by a question-and-answer discussion moderated by Winston Grady-Willis, professor and director of ΢Ȧ’s Black Studies Program.
